Overview:

As a Psychiatric Rehabilitation Counselor, you will play a pivotal role in supporting individuals with mental health challenges to achieve their personal recovery goals. You will provide therapeutic interventions, develop personalized rehabilitation plans, and foster a supportive environment to empower clients on their journey towards improved mental wellness.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients to evaluate their mental health status and rehabilitation needs.
  • Develop and implement individualized rehabilitation plans tailored to the unique circumstances and goals of each client.
  • Facilitate therapeutic group and individual counseling sessions, utilizing evidence-based practices to promote recovery and resilience.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers, to coordinate care and enhance client outcomes.
  • Monitor and document clients' progress, adjusting rehabilitation plans as necessary to reflect changing needs.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support to clients experiencing acute mental health issues.
  • Educate clients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies.
  • Engage clients in community resources and support services to enhance their social and vocational skills.

Required Qualifications:


  • Education: Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in mental health counseling or psychiatric rehabilitation.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in assessment tools and therapeutic techniques specific to psychiatric rehabilitation.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with clients and their families.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a compassionate, non-judgmental attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Additional certifications such as Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner (CPRP) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) are highly desirable.
  • Experience with specific populations such as veterans, adolescents, or individuals with co-occurring disorders.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and another language is a plus.
